Undergraduate students at the University of Hamburg built their own dark matter detector — a "cosmic radio" — to listen for axions with nothing but a student grant and boundless curiosity. They proved you don't need billion-dollar labs to probe the universe's deepest mysteries. Sometimes the most profound discoveries begin with a simple question and the courage to listen.
